Well, I wasn't going to write more about this week's injuries, but the recovery is just so darn interesting to me.
The headache's almost gone. At least it's at a point now where the Advil seems to help. Yesterday, I was considering getting it checked out. I have mentioned before that I've never had a head injury checked out, and I've had many. I don't know, I'm just not terrified of concussions like most people seem to be. But, when you add the fact that I have no sense of smell anymore, and the weird feeling behind my nose (on the roof of my mouth), it was a little disturbing. I began to think that maybe I had broken something inside and should have someone look at it. But, then I realized that any "complications" from a concussion would've occurred by now, and there's not much they'll do for a small fracture in that bump that all noses have. I told myself the headache was likely caused by the pressure of the swollen nose. Kinda like a sinus headache.
My knee is finally scabbed, which means I've been walking around without a bandaid on it without as much pain or having to worry about it oozing into my pants and my pants getting stuck (and the knee subsequently getting infected).
But, back to the nose. That's one of the "interesting" points. I've never broken my nose. I've never been punched hard in the nose. So, I didn't know what to expect this week. It's still pretty swollen and off-colour (the bruise is mostly yellowish now), but the feeling is weird. I've always been lacking in my sense of smell, but it's ridiculously less now. It's, as I've said a lot in this post, swollen, so I talk like I have a cold. But it's tingly!! When I sniff, or frown, or make an expression that pulls on my nose skin, the tip of my nose tingles, like a limb that's waking up. The tingling tickles and makes me scratch it, which hurts and causes more tingling.
And then there's my thumb. I hadn't even realized that I'd injured my left thumb, but sure enough, I have. The feeling has been coming and going in the thumb all week. I must've damaged a nerve or a thousand. In fact, there is a bruise at the base of the thumb that is just gaining colour. Sometimes, like now, it feels normal. Other times, it's tingly like my nose. And still other times, the back of it is numb, like your lips after a trip to the dentist. I rub my fingernail across it, and feel a distant coldness.
Oh well. It was all in good fun, and even though I don't remember it at all, I'll possibly remember it forever, with this seemingly permanent damage.

that last paragraph is the kind of beautiful thing that will be getting engraved on glass slab tombstones in about 75 years

yeah, that's what I was going for. But, if we're talking my tombstone, I don't think we'll have to wait 75 years.
