some Caper: What a nice alley. There weren't even any punks in it.
me (loudly, to KC): Sounds like somebody's prejudiced against punks.
KC: Punks are a dirty breed.
me: Yeah, well prejudice is dirtier.
Another thing I have to say about Saturday is FUCK THAT. Is it wrong to expect a certain level of service, especially from someone who was working at that bar 5 months ago during Gobblefest and should definitely have practice by now?
Actually, Saturday was a pretty good day, except for an incident I'll get into a bit later. Sheryl, Darcy, KC, and I all climbed into Darcy's Z28 and started heading to CB. The drive was enjoyable. I don't know when The Burdocks left, but it wasn't long before we met and passed them on the highway. Their meat-truck is great, but it lacks the speed of the hick-car we were in. Since we were making such great time, it was okay for us to stop to pee on the side of the road, or buy more treats and/or coffee, which of course would make us have to pee again soon. We passed those 'Docks at least 3 or 4 times. We didn't listen to much music on the way [our discussions were more fun] but it was exciting and inspiring to listen to the Bad Brains and Neos.
When we got to Sydney, it took us awhile to find the Southend Community Centre. KC and I kinda thought it was the same venue at which we saw Radarfame during Gobblefest. [Well, I should say he saw Radarfame. I drank at an abandoned building with Jenn]. We ate dinner at the Maple Leaf. I didn't know what to get. My appetite was still sketchy from all the candy the night before, and I had a bad experience the last time I ate there. I got onion rings. They must've recently changed the oil, because the onion rings were actually good, unlike the fries I had in October. The waitress gave us some kind of directions to find our first show. She didn't know the name of the side-street we were supposed to turn off of George street onto (College Street), so we got lost again. I was still looking for the other place, and did NOT recognize where we were going. Back to the Irving where coherent directions are given to Darcy. Finally we find the place, there's a bunch of kids outside and we see the Burdock-mobile in the parking lot.
The all-ages show was a fucking blast! I got spoken to by some of the kids, especially girls. "It's so inspiring to see a girl up there. You're so cool." We sold a few CD's. After us, the Burdocks went up. [Christian had to play 4 sets by the time the night was over]. They were good, as usual, and most of the kids loved them too. Evil Eyeball were up after the Burdocks, and then all 3 bands had to bring gear to the Leaf to prepare for the bar show. While Darcy went to eat dinner with Sheryl, KC and I went to the liquor store and the rest of the guys set up the Maple Leaf.
A quick trip to Nancy's mom's place. I've heard so many good things about Nancy's mom and her hospitality, but I stayed at Dale's folkses last time I was in town. Believe me, there was plenty of hospitality at Dale's, but I was psyched to meet nanker's mom. PLUS, I got to see Raggs again. It's been ages since I've seen that bitch. We ate some homemade mac 'n' cheese, and downed 2 beer each before heading back to the bar.
The bar show was good, but not as good as the kiddy show. I was really frustrated by my performance, among other things, after the set, so after taking my bass "back-stage" I got into line at the bar.
Ever get upset about something, but take it out on the wrong person? Unfortunately, I did that. Actually, I didn't really take anything out on anybody, I just dropped my money on the bar and stormed outside. I know I over-reacted and some of the things I said while ranting outside were abhorrent, but I didn't appreciate being snubbed for the 'tender's friends. I mean, I know the island's a little backward, but when I worked service, I had no problem subbing my friends to give the "REAL" customers the service they deserve. I don't mind waiting for service when the staff is doing their job, but when they ignore people that have been waiting for minutes to serve friends that have been waiting for seconds, and laugh and socialize when they should be WORKING, I get ticked off. But, I DID over-react. I don't deny it. Outside, when Harry overheard some of my rant, KC's reply was "yeah, she's the nastiest chick in Halifax." I don't know if that's true. Harry said something to the effect of "Fuck socializing, we came here to get drunk." It was decent advice, I guess he didn't understand that I was upset because I COULDN'T get drunk, not without service. To top it off, while we were loading out our gear, the Burdocks were allowed to drink, but mine got cleaned off the table, kept aside, and given to a friend of the staff. After I couldn't find my beer, I tried to get us and our gear out of there as soon as possible; I was livid. Then, seconds before we leave, I hear "Yeah, you can have it. I thought it was hers because she was standing there, but maybe it's yours" --- ------- still. --- ranting -- off ----, --- --- ----- ---- my ---- chest-- ------- --, --- ---- took -- it ---- out ---- -- -- --- sorry.
Thankfully, we did get out of there and went back to Nance's but there was no booze there.
Breakfast at Jasper's in the morning, and a drive home with an extra person. Laura, I'm sorry you had to witness my emotional moodiness. I really am a psycho.
